Frequently Asked Questions
Q?
Why is the Mundo so great for carrying kids?
A.
Kids are more than just a load on the bike,
they’re moving cargo. The Mundo is built to be stable and feel safe when carrying kids. The
frame has a low center-of-gravity and does not flex when the kids are on it. So, it doesn’t
feel like it wants to wander all over the road. Most bikes with a child seat don’t have room
to carry any more than you child. But a Mundo with a Peanut-Shell child seat can also have
two go-getter bags at the same time. Because we all know that where there’s kids, there’s
kids’ stuff. For people who have two young children, the Mundo can carry both in two
Peanut-Shells. And with the Mundo’s front rack and side loaders, you can ride with both
children and still have extra carrying capacity.
Q?
How is the Mundo for going up hills?
A.
You should have no problem tackling hills on the
Mundo. First, the Mundo has 21 speeds with a 20” low gear that’s super easy to pedal.
Secondly, the Mundo’s upright seating position and longer wheelbase make the bike more
comfortable even when going up hills slowly. Sure, you won’t go as fast as you would on a
race bike, but you’ll get there.
Q?
How much can I carry on a Mundo?
A.
The Mundo is designed to carry lots of stuff; four full
bags of groceries, two kids and all their stuff, two full-grown adults, a kayak or a cooler full of
food and drinks and all the makings for a picnic. Yes, the Mundo can carry more weight than
any bike out there, but the real question is, “how easy will it be to ride this thing with all that
stuff?” The Mundo’s integrated, one-piece frame is extra strong so that the bike will not flex
or twist when you load it up. That means that the bike feels comfortable when it is loaded
up with a hundred kilos and instills confidence even when you are carrying a couple hundred
kilos. The result is that the bike won’t feel like it wants to wander all over the road. Instead
it feels controllable, comfortable and safe – even fun.
Q?
Is it hard to ride a Mundo?
A.
We get this question all the time because people think that
since the Mundo is so big, it must be difficult to ride. In fact, the Mundo is easier to ride that
most bikes even at very slow speeds. That’s because of its longer wheel-base, low center of
gravity and great frame geometry. If that’s confusing, you’ll just have to try it to believe it.
The Mundo is fun, maneuverable and very easy to ride.
Q?
Why does it have those wings?
A.
The Mundo’s wings are actually loading platforms to carry
objects like boxes or a cooler or a stereo filing cabinet. With the wings as a horizontal
platform and the frame as a vertical support, very large objects can be securely strapped to
the Yuba. We believe that this design is better than bikes that have cargo buckets because
the wings can carry any sized object that can be strapped to it.
Q?
What does the Mundo Weigh?
A.
The Mundo V3.0 weighs 55lbs. But that doesn’t make it hard to pedal or ride. The Mundo sports high-pressure tires, which reduce rolling resistance;
it has a wide range of gear ratios for all types of terrain and has a comfortable, upright
seating position making it comfortable to pedal for miles and miles.
Q?
Is it better to buy my bike from a dealer or direct from Yuba?
A.
There are several good
reasons to buy your new Yuba Mundo from a Yuba dealer. For one, the dealer won’t charge
you for shipping. Secondly, your dealer will make sure that the bike is correctly assembled
and adjusted. Your dealer will be there to adjust your new bike after the “break-in” period.
Just as importantly, your dealer always will be there to keep your bike maintained. Lastly,
your dealer can help you with things you might not have thought about such as other Yuba
accessories or updates.
Q?
Can I take the wings off?
A.
The Wings are attached to the Yuba with a few screws and can be
removed, but why would you? We designed the wings to be out of the way by making them
only as wide as the outside of your pedaling feet. Attached to the Mundo, they easily fit
through doorways and they make an excellent handle when lifting the bike.
Q?
I’m really short/Tall. Will the Mundo fit me?
A.
The Mundo is designed to fit riders from 5’0”
to 6’5”. Any shorter, and you need to ride in the Peanut-Shell!
Q?
Can I carry a Mundo on a bike Rack?
A.
Yes. We like the Rockymounts TandemMount R4 bike
rack for tandems. The Yuba Mundo wheelbase is 55”.
Q?
Will the Yuba Mundo fit on the bike rack on the public bus?
A.
We have measured a few bus carriers and they are typically too small to accommodate the Mundo.
